- Biography -
Dr Adiwan is the Postgraduate Program Director (MSc and PhD) in Urban and Regional Planning, and Transportation studies at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). Since 2023, he is the President of Indonesia Planning School Association (ASPI)
He is also an experienced academic administrator who has successfully designed and implemented the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) and supports more than 140 students who participated in the Merdeka Belajar program by the Ministry of Education. Previously, he successfully established new Double Degree MSc and PhD programs, which has secured funding from the Indonesian Government and LPDP (Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education).
As a researcher, his expertise on urban and regional development, infrastructure and industrial economics, informal and creative economies, and regional policies. Experienced in collecting and analysing various statistics and geospatial data. By integrating geospatial, economic, and spatial econometric capabilities, his research delved deeper into the context of urban economics, specifically in the creative and informal industries, economic networks, and communities.
These research projects secured collaborative research and funding from international partners, such as University College London (funded by the British Academy) and the University of Twente (funded by NWO-Dikti). The application of geospatial benefits in urban economics, infrastructure, transportation, and environment with analytics and digitalisation, driving the use of big data and the implementation of smart cities. Other various funding from domestic sources (ITB and Ministry of Research and Technology) and international collaborations with the University of Melbourne (smart cities), King’s College London (Geospatial Big Data) and ETS Canada-University of Bath (Climate Change impact on local livelihood)
Dr. Aritenang also has won a few awards, including Bandoengse Technische Hoogeschool Fonds (BTHF), the recipient of International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) in 2019 and joined the The Climate Reality Leadership Corps in 2016. He is the author of The Impact of State Restructuring on Indonesia’s Regional Economic Convergence (2016), which was published by ISEAS.
